The Origins of Language

Hi Everyone,

This week we have studied the 3 approaches to the question of "the origins of language", "The Divine Theory", "The Evolution Theory" and "The Social Theory". Bearing these and the nature of language (last week's question) in mind, could you please foresee the future of the language? Try to picturize the future world in language context.

when we look at the past of the language,we can say that ıt has affected from the relıgıon accordıng to the dıvıne theory.we can say that yes the language lıved evolutıon.but for socıal theory we can not say the same thıng.that ıs we can not say the language affected from the socıal events and that ıs all.no.the socıal events go on and ı thınk these affect the language ın the future as well.so when we look at the future of the language we can not say handable thıng.but ın my opınıon the language wıll change ın the future as ıt has changed, has changed and ıs changıng.maybe our chıldren`s chıldren wıll not understand what we say.becausa ı know ıt from my envıronmet.because ın my own cıty ı often can not understand what my grandmother talkıng about.ın vıew of the grammer,ı do not thınk the grammer wrıtten on books wıll change but ı thınk the grammer used whıle speakıng of course wıll change.and as a rsult as the world beıng lıke a vıllage day by day ı thınk we wıll use other language`s words easıly.and ın the future havıng a common language ın the world ıs not far away.

Human set hıs attitudes accordıng to envıronment. The language is human. So ıt changes.Until now,ıt lıved different times. The theories have come out according to people,to their environment or conditions they faced. After thıs tıme,ıt will live change(s) again,of course. If there is lots of different people ,there will be different languages.I thınk ın the future ınternet will have a basıc role.It will effect the languages. But ewery language, only, will take words from it.The languages will stay near the internet.Shortly,we can say there will be lots of internet languages.

one adress i look through shows development of the language clearly.the kinds of communication used earlier ideograms, logograms, rebus writing...everybody can understand how the longuage develop.however, language is almost on the top step in progress.in the future world,i have no comments about your question.i said how language could develop or change more.on the contrary, the language can be in collapse.esp. computer can cause less talkingso language can go backwards instead of development.jevunile born recently meet computer immediately.they spend their times with their computers in their rooms alone.i think people help, communicate each other less as long as time passes.
if the necessary to mention from good side about future language,of course speaking language will change to simplfy language.maybe everyone could speak the same language to understand each other well,to agree without fighting.(like human creation-yo-heave-ho theory)that time there will be no special code belonging to the countries but everybody will be in peace.
for turkish,it could be added new, different words to describe our emotions,opinions...more powerfully.
of course, the language will grow up but there will not be very signaficiant differences to language used now, like a few thousands years ago

Change is a distinctive feature of languages. As you know we have little evidence to indicate when language may have originated. But here is an important point; language somehow originated. As language is something alive, it is not possible for language to stay the same in every phase of history. Like a person or a plant changing in the period of its development, language itself changes in order to adapt new life conditions. Sometimes it develops, sometimes it changes or in other words it is exposed to changes.
One of the theories concerning the origins of language is social theory. According to the theory, a tool is needed between people in order to interact with each other. In my opinion based on this theory, it is possible that language changes in the same way it originates. We are talking about the earth which covers 510.072 million km2 and its people. The usage of language, noun declensions and the capacity of vocabulary of those people are indigenous to their own languages. Because of some mutual effects, languages always change while some of them borrow new words, some of them change only the conjugation. At last language changes. For example, in the early history, people had very few vocabulary just enough for their daily life in jungles. However, with the development of their life standarts they started to use different words.
When the historical development of English is examined, the effects of the Romans Invasion, Anglo-Saxon Invasion and the Norman Conquest of French on the language can be easily seen. Although the reason of the changes was pervading larger areas, now it is because of some technological and scientific developments. In the near future there will probably be lots of lexical changes which will be the reason for the loss of some words.
In the long run, the term lingua franca will be used widely in my point of view. Even now, English is not any more a formal language of some countries. It is now not only the earth’s language but also the universe’s language. On some films it is not astonishing for us to see that the aliens coming from space speak English. As a result of this, after a few centuries, changes in language will leave its place to the loss of some languages which will bring the term of lingua franca in order to help humans to communicate.

One of the factors that affect the language is politics.
The foreign language of the country depends on its political allies, forexample.
-if we look to Turkey's allies,we understand it better.-
(the F.L. of us have been changing:German,French,English...
maybe Arabic or Russian in near future)
For nearly a century languages of west have been the boss of lang.s
Because the western countries have been the boss of the world.
But when we look today's world
the languages of the future will probably be Lang.s of East.(Russian,Chinesee,Arabic ..)
The quick changes in countries, states, regions are the signs of this. That is languages of world will be affected from some other languages.
Lexicons of them will change ofcourse.
To sum up,politics has a real effect on lang.s
Some languages will lose its popularity, some others will dominate other languages.
And it will go on like this until the end of world..

I think that the matter of language is getting more and more complicated lesson by lesson. We learn new subjects but I can say that the more we learn, the more we run into questions.Last week we studied origins of language and divine, evolution, social theories were discussed. We know something about the past of language yet its future seems to be unclear.World is changing very fast and in these circumstances,we cannot guess even tomorrow. However to me,languages will disappear slowly.World is already a global village and a lot of languages have already died.In future, lingua francas will change, finally maybe there will not be spoken language because technology will have brought new systems of communication.People will use their mouth only to eat.On the other hand,I believe that there will be at least a human in the last day of world who use spoken language even if he/she cannot find another person to speak. In addition, according to me,there can be different explanations of this subjects in respect of theories.Since each theory defends dissimilar events. For example if a person doesn't believe religion,he/she doesn't accept divine theory.Like this, that person won't accept the future of language explanation in divine theory, too. To conclude,I can say that there will be language in future with human being,as well;but its type/style will be different in respect to theories. In the past,it was different and uncertain,so in future it will be different and uncertain.Because past is the mirror of future !!!

The language will change, while the time passes away, as well as other things change. When ve compare the language in the past with today, we see that new words new terms are always coming into our language, and make -after many years- a big difference between the old and new, and it will always be like this. Factors as technology that erases the borders, has a big influence on language. İt makes people everywhere, use the same terms etc. Some people exaggerate the use of foreign words, and mix it with their native language. İ can unfortunately imagine a future where a lot of people will talk a mixed language, where the nationality plays a less role. This quality is a gift from Allah, likewise the whole world, and it is up to the human being how to use/develop or abuse it.

fırstly ı should say that when ı first heard the questıon'what's the language',we will answer ıt and won't heard ıt any more.but day by day this questıon ıs gettıng more meanıngful for me.we discussed 3 basic theory and ı realısed that language was effected from everything in the past.nevertheless the circumstances ın the past weren't so effectıve.of course there were wars, some socıal events that effect ıt but now the sıtuautıon is more suıtable for language development,I mean technology.ı thınk ın the future the communıcatıon between people will be worse.thınk that u are travellıng by bus and a man comes near you.u are lıstenıng to music or watching sth.in your mp4.the communicatıon is over.this a sımple sample of the effects of technolgy to the language .also the globalısatıon wıll effect the language.ın addıtıon to these, apart from the negative sides of technology there will be benefits of ıt.thanks to ıt we will discuus on the net our language with somebody else,we will learn.different cultures wıll meet...Also the oldest people ın the world that speaks different foreign languages will die.ıf we dont protect our culture, there will be no language.for example turkish folk songs, public speech ect..when we dont gıve enough ımportance to the language and usıng body language we wont fınd out the orıgıns of language.ın short ı want to say that the most ımportant thing effects ıt,will be technology and globalısatıon and our vısual to tha language...

I wonder what would happen if the language that we are speaking, remained the same since it was born.Would we have so much difficulty that we can not handle or or would this be a trivial problem that does not make any big troubles in society? Today, when we have a look at the texts that were written not so much aproxiamately 400-500 years ago we have difficulty in getting the real meaning of them.We know that this is because language is live as people are live. That’s why there have been many natural changes related to bilogical, social, religious changes in human life in the time period starting with the emerging of language.

As language is like the body of a person it has to adapt to the changes that time brings. As a result, when linguists make researches on language or when they try to find the answer of the question ”How language appeared first” they have to consider humanlife as the changes in humanlife equals to the changes in language. As we have learned from our previous course in this matter linguists mention abaout some theories. These are the Divine Theory (which relates language with religion), “the Social Theory”(based on the relationships between males and females) and “the Evoelutionay Theory”(which tries to express it with biological facts.

As i have understood both from the lesson that we have last week and from the articles that our lecturer suggested us to read, language is obliged to change as long as it exists (as long as people exist). Therefore, when i think about the future of language i believe that the changes will never have an end.The changes could be like the changes happened in the past or could be in a way much more different from our estimates. For example; humankind could have a biological change and the structure of our skeletons may alter because of different climate conditions such as global warming.Automaticaly this effects the language that are spoken as a result of the differences in our mouth shape and as a result the sounds could be created differently related to that.

On the other hand, when we look from the social aspect we can guess that there should be changes in social life of human beings as well. The traditions, the technology, the relationships of people...These all effect social life. And this led to the changes in language as an example; since the spreading use of computers the use of typewriters has increadebly decreased therefore; we don't use the word “typewriter”so often. And maybe after years when our grandchildren hear the word they will know typing and writing but perhaps they will not ever now what “ typewriter” means as they can not associate the word with a picture in their minds as they deprived of the tool.As we understand; Maintanence of a word depends on the frequency of its’s being used and the validity of the thing the word refers to.Or if somehow our beliefs changes or something is added the words that we are using related to them may disappear in the future.

These are just the ones that come to my mind.I believe that there would be much more suprising changes that would make our children have difficulty in understanding us.

Since language is alive,t changes as the time passes. It has to change, develop because t has to provide people much better communcation.Since it is very hard to explain how the language came out, people found theories so as to explain this. Some said"language is a magic"some said"it is a gift to mankind from God" and some said"there is arbitrareness between the objects and their names"but nobody could find the true answer.By means of language people continue their relationship between each other in social environment;shortly people can continue their lives thanks to it.So language changes according to people and their needs. For instance,500 years ago there was no computer,so there wasn't any for that terminology but now we have many words which we didn't have in past.Languages changed according to wars, religion, needs and meeting of new tribes long years ago,now it is same too but new technology developments have an effecton it also.If it is asked how it will be years after,l say, maybe scientists could achieve to find the true answer for origin of language maybe they could find the reason of the arbitrariness between the objects and their names, maybe they could find a logical explanationfor this. Many kinds of languages will have been discovered like machine languge, figurative language, sign language with help of cognitive science.Maybe communcaton means will develop and people could communicate with animals like a human being.I think evrything is possible in this never-ending changes of language

there can be different ideas or theories about the origins of language."how did it appear?when did it appear for the first time?"etc.these kind questions are always asked and there have been found tree basic theories;"The Divine Theory","The Evolution Theory","The Social Theory".Maybe we will not be able to find out what is really origin of it,but it is a fact that as long as humankind exists, language will exist,as well. And also it will exactly change as it has happened until now.In the past, language was affected by what was dominant at that time period.religions, trading, wars, invasions, communications of the cultures etc. all the things that affect human life changed language.ın the future, language will be changing as it always happens.Education, politics, economy, globalization etc. will have important roles in this long and wide changing period. The world is getting narrower by means of communication.Maybe there will not be exact separate and new languages, but it is definite that evolution is inevitable.

in the past, language was a perfect think for the connection.it is a symbol of thoughts, emotions and wishes..but today its function is disappear.its valid for future too.people use technology and different ways for communication.like an internet or a mobile phone.instead of speak face to face they use phones.ın the future it will disappear and no one will speak face to face.when internet and mass media widespread it will be universal language.trade affected the language too.for example mcdonalds.turkey is full of mcdonalds.what is on sale?hamburger.this word become established in turkish and it wont exit.with globalism investments between the countries can be affected language like hamburger..

We will give back everything that God has given us. Just like our body, one day will come and we will give the language to its true owner, the God. And just like our body, the language too, will have born, grown, multiplied, worn out and died. We said that humankind had just one language, with the Babel example. And than we divided the language into variety. Than, Mr Darwin concluded that, our language, just like our brain and body, had evolved. So, what is next? It is so simple, indeed! (special thanks to Manolya) We experimented the deduction and induction is looking forward to see the one language era. The multiplying of language has come to an end. The reasons are shown again with social theories. The theories tell us our needs and the interdependence of nations. The next step is again an evolution, and maybe a revolution. (and thanks to Zeynep) Assimilation gets stronger and languages die with their last speakers. In the near future, we will have just one language on earth and it will be English, most probably. Our skyscrapers overshadow the Babel tower. Than all of them will eradicate and we will not be as lucky as our ancestors were. The only thing that we will lose may not be our language! As for the social aspect, the term ‘world citizen’ is going around. And we are making use of our government so as to learn English. The restaurants outside, all look for waiters that know English or Russian. In spite of the communication technologies and the one languaged world, we will speak less and less tomorrow.

ıt is impossible to point when people used spoken language but we know spoken language developed before written language and by archaeological discoveries,in Sumer,we can see a large number of tablets written in Sumerian.Language is related with human's developement.
Throughout history many things have influenced human beings life, and these things influenced their languages as well. Generally the changes come out because of wars, religions, when a country is powerfull in economical way or industrial revolutions.at the same time technology introduces new words to the languages...such as computers, internet, telephones,tv etc.
we are sure that in the future language will not be the same as today,it will change permenantly.
there are some speculations about origin of human language as mentioned in the article, the study of language:the origins of language, one of them is divine theory as we discussed before in our class last week.when we don't know how to explain the origin of language we say ıt's because of GOD. we say like that cause we believe in god.
the second is evolution theory: we know that science shows us that human brain works in miracle way. ıt changes because human changes too.most of us use our left hemisphere of our brain when we use language.our body language is limited, not enough for express ourselves.so in social life we are to use language in our social life. for communicate our knowledge, skills emotions,to transfer our knowledge from recebt generation to the future...

to conclude ı can say that without language there would be no technology,no society or no communication and on the other hand without humanity there would be no language...
ın the future even after our generation die, humanity will be exist, maybe their life style change, and at the same time their languages will change too. some of languages will die, some of them will born but ı know as long as people live and the world revolves language will exist...lastly ı would like to say as t.s. eliot said "our beginnings never know our ends"

we heard a story about differentiation of languages. god gets angry with people and he creates lots of languages as a punishment.what a terrible punishment! before this all people were speaking the same language. and now we are going a world in which an universal language will be spoken. all nations are affected from each other in all terms. but the most affected and affecting one is language. i see a world in which only english will be spoken. and i think english grammar will be forgotten exactly because people likes economy of words.besides this all languages will be mixed with english even english will be complex inside itself. because even american culture affects enlish words. world will change and new things will join us. new crimes new wars new conquests new peaces new people... and maybe this will lead to new wars while nations are tryin to prevent the influence on their language... 3231060030

As we are dealing with an Old English literary text "Beowulf" in our literature course, we have to use a translation to be able to comprehend the text due to changes in grammar, pronunciation and the lexical field. But what might seems strange for us right now, is that there will be a generation that will have to use a translation in the same way when reading a Modern English literary text in future.
Trying to explain the origin of language 3 theories have been propound. One is the Nature Theory, which defines it on a basis of need, the other is the Evolution Theory with an explanation of biological sources and the last one is the Divine Theory with a religious fundament.
When I try to foresee the future of language in terms of these 3 theories I will bring my idea closer by referring to the Nature Theory and disregard possible changes in the human brain on basis of evolution because of still on-going researches.
As the statement made in last class says: "Human is a pragmatic creature", whatever is advantageous is what he learns, where the Lingua Franca is an influence, as well. This becomes clearly evident through the changes of English language after the Norman Conquest, for example. As you wanted to have any kind of dealings you had to learn French. Same situation just with a temporal difference is the borrowings of English to other languages due to technology and culture these days. For the future I believe that Chinese concerning technological leadership will bring mutual borrowings to the international language. As Sir William Jones determined the relationship between languages, I believe that since there is a more borrowing of modern words from English and "pragmatic" languages the more a kind of standardization of one language will exist. Therefore ease in any direction will be achieved, whether in terms of grammar (e.g. handkerchieves to handkerchiefs), pronunciation and common lexical usage.

as well as ı investigated these three theories are completely different from each other. they all advocate distinct things about the origins of language.one says language was bestowed to humankinds by God.one another says language occured with evolution of human`s brain.and the other defends the language came into being from the relationship among people.but there is fact the origins of language is not clear.when look our past there are many kind of languages. most of these lang. were distroyed because of separate reasons.and many others have been changing by taking words from other languages, by developing technology and etc...who knows what is the future of language? maybe, only one language will be spoken. or the language we speak today will be changed after one hundred. because which languages when we investigate are almost dissimilar.in conclusion think as we don`t know the origins of language and many theories are proposed about it,we can only suggest theories about it... 3231060060

At the beginning;language changed according to the hummankinds changes through the time. One of the changes happened on human was physical change. With the changing conditions of the earth, our body had to modify itself in order to stay alive. One of these changes were on the head and facial structure.By the time, the structure of the lower jaw, lips and the tongue changed with the increase in the use of sounds and these organs. When human started to get involved in communication with other humans, with the sound sharing, language developed.Later people started to use some basic sounds and letters. And then, they simplified the words and sounds by using in their daily lives and basic needs. With the occurance of society groups language diversed. The words they used were determined by the cultural specialities of them like greek based on sea and sea products,anglo-saxons based of war and basic needs, french on government terms...etc.Also each societies own religious terms effected their languages too. With the relationships of different societies, there have been many exchanges.
For examlple in English;
-Once people used language only for basic needs and kinships like; mother,meat,drinking,go,do...
-Later wars effected and composed societies;ship,blood,spear,battle...
-Later societies developed; government,public,rule,society...
-And religion effected; monk,priest,bible,pray...
....
This is simply the basic changes in English language. Now we find it too hard to read the early texts just because of all those changes happened in time and the changes still happening. We need English translations just to be able to
read Old English.By the time, with growing technology, events in time and interrelations with other societies, our recent, modern language will change too and after some centuries, our future societies might also need the translations to understand the modern language we use now.The more people will have access to information of the world, the more the language will develop; and our modern language will not be modern anymore.
As a conclusion;I want to give an example from our L1,Turkish;
once with the effects of Arabian culture Turkish had persian and arabic words, later with the effects of French according to the political relationships of the ottoman empire,French words entered to the language. Now with the developing technology and the internet, their basic language's English' effects can be easily seen in the language. That might show the changes in language and easily help to foresee the future of the language.

if we look at the old language we see long and complex words.but today our words are easier to say.so,the main point of this topic is 'easiness'.because easiness is very important for people everytime.people alway want to find easy religion, easy geography, easy social enviroment and easy speech.for our language depends on these points,of course we want a easy language.in the future we will use only necessary words maybe we will speak little.for example people will not use long long poems for telling their loves or ideas.we will use morely our body language.for technology will develope, technic words will used.for people's biology is same for years they will learn language with same ways it wont change.but the most
important point is that people will use same language much more.but it wont be like before the babel towel because we will have to use the same language by some people.we will have to use the same language for the money for the other powers.that will not be present for us from god!.

In my opinion in the future all of people are going to speak only one language...what make me think so is that when people begun to use language they used only one languge and then other languages were created by social effcts or by GoD or by nature... until this time a lot of languages has been died and everyday some languages die because of a lot of reasons in other hand some languges are spoken more and more people...all of these confirm my idea about lang. war also affect languages...powerful countries' languges spread out day by day...because when they invade another country they also take their language with them and invaded country was to force use their language...

The origin of language is always in question and there are many kinds of theories about it.Language existed when the first human being existed and it changes as the human being changes like a creature. It will continue in the future. We can see this change by looking the past but it is the fact that language is always a communication tool.In the future people will use a global language or create it as the world becomes global. It is inevitable because of the technological developments, innovations in science, mass media, internet, etc. In the future people will communiate with others from all around the world so they need a common language for easier communication. To conclude, there will be only a language in the future and this language will be shaped by the dominant fact of the time.By a new religion,by huge war effecting many nations or new innovations, etc. 3231060017

The world's language system is undergoing rapid change because of demographic trends, new technology, and international communication.languge is alive like a person.because of some techlogic devices like television, radio and phone now the world is getting narrower and narrower. people from different countries must communicate with each other much more than before. These changes will soon affect both written and spoken communication. I think in the future all nations will decide on a common language but this language won't be english. all nations which are very powerful at any time in the history must weaken also. so, one day the nations speaking english will weaken and maybe erased from the earth. when this happen english will lose its importance. now ıts very difficult or impossible to guess which language will be the commonly spoken language.

according to divine theory until babel tower humankind had spoken one common language but then somehow they started to speak different languages and simultaneously language started to gain importance and be powerful. That is to say since Babel tower history has witnessed the "power shows of language"... and in my opinion history will testify "the language of power"... this means there will be one language and this will be the most powerful country-culture- civilation's language... 3231060051

these three theory ıs used to explaın how to form the language.formıng of the language ıs dıffer ın every theory.ıf ı want to explaın the future of the language accordıng to these theory,ı can say these.ı thınk we wıll loose our speakıng abılıtıy ın the future so the term of language wıll dıssapear at the same tıme language wıll dıssapear ıtself.ıts reason ıs clear.mankınd ıs gettıng antısocıal day by day.people can spend theır tıme ın front of the computer.humankınd has found a toy that prevent hım communıcateıng wıth other people.may be the human kınd wıll loose the abılıty of speakıng because of thıs reason.we know from the evolutıon theory that, people need a physıcally abılıty to speak.may be people's physıcall form wıll change by sttıng ın front of the computer.may be people wıll turn the form of evolutıon theory begınıngs.ı can say that people can loose the abılıty of speakıng because ıf you dont speak durıng the day,the other day when you start to speak you can have some dıffucullty ın your throat.so ıt ıs about our usıng of our vocal track.the less people speak the less they use vocal track.so the future of language ıs about our pshycal abılıty except from ıts socıal,economıcal etc aspect. 3231060048

language is a very broad area.in the past, humanbeings tried to find the origin of language.for it,some theories were put forward.according to divine theory,it was god's gift to humankind.according to evolutionary theory,it originated with evolution of human brain.for social teory,it originated with the communication of human with each other.
from past until now,it changed so much.it was affected from different things such as:religion, wars, conquests, climate, social events,invasions...each of them added something to it or changed something in it.for example;there are big differences between languages in old english with language in modern english.
it is difficult to forecast the future of language.but we can predict something.as you know, technolgy develops everyday.people learn different things by means of it.so new words enter in language.so,ı think in the future language will develop.because, with technology new objects will want to be defined.also as it happened in the past,in the future wars, style of life, religion etc...will affect language.besides these, needs of humankind change in time.needs of first people were about principal needs.they were about surviving, being protected, taking shelter etc...but in time when humankind improved theirselves in different areas, their needs changed.so these affected language.so,like this language will go on to develope.ı think in the future our sons won't understand what we speak today.in the future as well as everthing the language will also enter in globalization.people will use a common language.in conclusion, the language will go on to develope and develope...

in two predictions,we see that even famuos thinkers and linguistics can not give any certain date or time related to when the language was born.and also they can't definitely figure out how it was formed or by whom.but also we can also do some predictions about it.for example,in my opinion;the language was born from the natural sounds.some words like buzz,cough,etc...took their names from the natural sounds.these words are known as "ONOMATOPOEİC WORDS".at earlier times after the existing the first human-being,they heard voices from the nature, their environment!even their own voices were strange to them.then they started to imitate the voices.it's because they need to communicate.their daily needs and routines pushed them to imitate the voices and made them understandable.of course it's possible to predict many things on this topic but the divine theory is the closest one to me.

anyway, when we look at the language future,it's hard to guess what kind of improvements will be done.but developing technology, the new generations, increasing population, tne new constructions, high demands of people,etc..moves the language far more stages.ıf we compare the past and today,we see how all languages improve!new words, new idioms, even new jokes..:)as everything is changing, the languages will change.because it's a alive like us.maybe we could not understand our children's jokes at the future like now our parents can't understand us:)but ı hope during this chancing, the roots of all languages won't be deformed!

I wish I would be able to read my this comment after 60 years later!!!
thanks...

Language has been on earth since the existence of human. We don’t know exactly its “date of birth” but we are sure that it is very old. Many theories were posed, from which three of them are stressed. Firstly, the Divine Theory, based on religion, claims that language is a gift of God to people. Then, there is the Evolutionary Theory. This one gives attention to the evolution of the human being (changes of body, brain, and with these changes comes the development of ability to speak). Lastly comes the Social Theory, which emphasizes the importance of the society in the development of man’s language. As for me, I think we cannot separate the community from the human being. I mean, both society and man’s individual development are important. Because if man has the ability to speak and that his body is ready biologically to form phrases (muscles, brain etc), yet he has no one to talk to, the language will not progress. In fact, there won’t be a language. Because every man on earth has the faculty but its progression and gaining come with social community. Like “Tarzan”, who grows in forest with animals, has the ability to speak but he ‘roars’ only, as the animals around him do. On the other hand, the Divine Theory seems like an escape for me, as we do not obtain a certain answer.

Origin of language can be defined, somehow by these kinds of researches or theories. However, I do not think that its future is predictable because of the fact that it is vivid and it is developing. For example, in Turkish, the word “abi” is used now instead of “ağabey”. Both of them are correct but the first one replaces the other’s place day by day. Many Turkish writers utilize it in their work, too. Apart from this, we can see clearly that many words from foreign languages are taking their part in Turkish. “Chat”, “Bye” are recent examples for this situation. Despite having the equivalents of these words in Turkish, people – mostly youth- are using the English ones.

Yet, there is also a negative side, which is the extinction of language. This can be because of the assimilation of language by another or not using it which cause the oblivion of language.

All in all, I think future of a language cannot be predicted. But if we try to foresee, we can say that there are two “ways”: development and expansion of a language or extinction of a language.

language..for sure it s alive for that reason it s thought to have experienced some kind of evolution, and i guess it will go on as long as it exists..for example language consists of not so many words, just a few words needed..but as the tecnology develops we started to use new words refering to this new things..sometimes we have hard times because of it,even when translating a new word into our language..however Adam was said to have an aptitude for naming according to the divine theory he has a power about it..what about future world?in my opinion english will go on being the leading language on earth for a century or two, then japanese will take the leading role from english..why do i think in this way?simple..because i m looking at it from POWER point..dont get me wrong:)i mean who is more powerful, his language will be the leader..
also if we look at the point from the view of english,i can say i dont think it will go extinct some day..it will carry on existing but maybe affected by japanese, latin, arabic whatsoever..who is dominant also will affect the all languages on earth..

We accept that language is coming from God but this doesn't mean that it can not change,it can not develop or it can not die.As we accepted the language is a natural thing,we also know that it can change or it can die.Language has had a lot of processes from time it was born to now and there is no time that people can use the phrase 'GAME OVER' for the game whose name is 'Non-stop changes in Language'.When the language first occured,it consisted of Core Vocabulary because people's needs were the most significant things that needed to be explained. Then the wars happened, cultural communications started, the industry initiated to improve and finally the endless development of technology affected the language in various sides.Grammer and vocabulary of the language are easy to change in terms of the effects I have mentioned above. For example; there had not been the word 'TELEPHONE' since A.Graham Bell found it or think about the words Internet and Computer,we use these words in every day life now but when we look at 1980s,there aren't any people know what is Internet or Computer. And then the technology improved and there is a word LAPTOP now.I think the languages first occured because of the basic needs but they did not remain same, new words were added to them and some old words were forgetten. In the future, maybe new generations will not even know the word Laptop,I am sure that there will be a lot of changes especially in the vocabulary, that's certain, but I do not know certainly how and in what ways it will be and which shape the language will get.I suppose that new words will come to the language in way of Internet and some vocabulary which are most oftenly used in formal writing or in formal speeches will be lost because of the wide and sincere informal way that we use on the Internet mostly. However my imagination is not enough yet to foresee which words or which abbreviations will new generation use.The only thing I know is everything is bound to change because of the technology. Moreover when we look at society we see a lot of people only chatting on the Internet all day and nothing else. When this is the case,I think there may be no spoken language in the future because I am afraid that people will forget how to speak, and the mind's language part will work only for the language which is on our fingers.

As we discussed at the class there are some theories about the born and development of language. In my opinion the evolution theory and social theory are very logical. However, they can not answers my questions about languages born.As one of our friend ask:
'Why we call the table as table?'
I think in this step only the divine theory works and gives a logical answer. At the beginning divine theory is effective then the social theory and evolution theory are joins the process.Because of language's development in accordance with human beings'.

Consequently, language is something which is directly related with human being and we are living in an era which is changing dramatically,so as language. For example, todays Turkish has many differences from fifty years befores Turkish.Because life style of Turkish people changed with the effect of technology and many other factors. As the technology still developing peoples way of thinking and living is changing and this makes language change. In the future, languge will change in accordance with people but this will only bother that days old people as its in todays world.I suppose,
the words will be more shorter in colloquial language and there will be many abbreviations as people think more basical.

When we start to think over language,in all minds the obvious question arises: What is the origin of language and which language is the oldest one? That matter, on which lots of researchers have been striving up to present and racks most of our brains, contains some issues that must be illuminated:

-When did the first human speaking live and how old does the history of language?
-In which way did the first speakings become fact?
-Were languages born from a single origin or different origins?

If we say briefly there are 4 main hypothesises intenting to enlighten the BIRTH of languages:

1)THEORY BASED ON ECHOS:Especially echos from nature was born by being inspired from nature. And words of each languages are similar to each others.
2)THEORY BASED ON EXCLAMATIONS: It's supposed that, language was born from the exclamations made by crying babies and their mothers accompanying them. Some complainings, monanigs, groanings..etc.
3)WORK THEORY: When people were working together to move at the same time, they made some starting sounds as we say-command-.It's supposed that languages were born from these sounds.
4)GAMES-RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES THEORY: These were the most important elements of early times.People used the language for making some requests from their gods such as making sun rise, making it rain..etc.So it's supposed that languages were born from these prayers and songs.

Also, there are 3 main claims about APPEARING of the languages:

1)All the languages were coming from a single origin and then spread to the whole world.
2)Languages appeared at the same time, in different regions.
3)Languages apppeared at differnt times,in different regions.

How true all of these are can not be found even today but the studies ,at least, put a big truth forward in addition to proving the fact that humans wonder about the origin and the future of language:

"HUMAN BEINGS HAVE LINGUISTIC CREATIVITY."

Yes,language is not a production but it's not a God also which is impossible to give birth or to be born.It was born somehow and in some way it's keeping on giving birth to its children(I mean;some grammatical changes some pronunciation changes, word changes..etc.)

Now that we human beings have a linguistic creativity, that doesn't mean this creation process has come to an end after we created our language. You can never stop it because language has a subjectivity.

I'd like you to think about that:In our lifes, what's the thing we use mostly? Our mobile phones? Our pcs?Our cars..?So what?
-Our languages.

Language,as it's being used all the time and we do nothing without it,it's always undergoing rapid change. We are always converting it, transforming it.But that doesn't matter, we are communicating with it.

It's impossible to foresee the future of language for sure, but it's possible to make some predictions. In spite of being very subjective and vivid, language is a systematical notion and have principles. One of them-helping us on this matter- is that:

Language is always inclined to make an easy way,to faciliate the communication.

Especially in our age,we can speak of this factor as the biggest clue for the prediction. We are living in a "speed age"in which even sleeping and eating can be seen as a waste of time.
So we have to sleep "fast sleeping"
We have to write "fast writing"
We have to make "fast searching"
We have to eat "fast food"
And we have to communicate with "FAST LANGUAGE".

Look at text messages. We don't use vocal sounds and grammer rules.Grammer, from this moment on,has grown less important.I do believe in the importance of perfect grammer in perfect communication but, I do believe in language also.It will find an easier way.

*It's a little irrelevant to our subject ,but i'd like to say sth about the future of our language.I am totally disagree with the campaings like "Claim Your Language!"Surely It's very important to use our language correctly. But how can you want your language be independent from Eng.,Ame.languages..etc.,while you are dependent on bush.If you eat "hamburger" you say "hamburger". If you drink "coca cola" you say " coca cola"...So, claim yourself. Then let the language be!

We don't know exactly when the language first occured but it has existed since humanbeing live in the world.According to 3 theories; It is given us from God,it occured with human evolution or it originated from interaction of humans with each other.Thinking all of the theories together,I think, language will change according to people's needs and habits. With globalization, languages that are spoken in small areas will die as now.there will be some primary languages that all people around will speak;like English,Chinese.. people will need to speak little and will use easy and brief words.because time will be precious. Also in future our anatomy and the sounds we can create will change so the language. We can't stop changes in language because changing thing is ourselves day by day.

From the beginnig of life, people used lots of different language because of their life style.Day by day, used language was changed.According to divine theory, men used to speak only one language until babel tower. Then, they started to speak their national language. However, they tried to find to one commen lang.Their aim was to create an easy and flexible language as universal secand lang. to foster peace and international understandin.(For instance Esperanto was created for this aim.)However no success.I think in the future men will share the same language.this language most probably will be English. As you see, lots of nations are allready using english as a secand lang. But different language can be so wait and see what will happen in the future...

the affair of language is still an insoluble, discussed matter. There are many theories, researchers and also surveys on how the language has developed and still goes on developing.Indeed, language is affected by mant agents such as life conditions, relations of people and also the structure of brain related to emitting sounds.moreover,we all agree with the brain is so in order that it cansuccessfully fulfill its duty on the language since we can come across a disorder if a damage to a part of brain is present for one or another reason.
there is an indisputable fact that the language we use has been modifying day by day thanks to many factors ,for instance, technologies developments...furthermore,the languages around the world keeps affecting each other in both negative and positive senses. It may be pronounciation, sounds, root, etc. Some languages have died since they are not used while new ones have been created, which is a rare event, though.
shortly,my concept about the language is that the matter of language will be finally solved even though it will take a long time.It will be known to everybody thathow it has emerged and developed and how it works. When it comes to the diversity of languages, they will go on affecting each other, they will be more simplified or may be more complicated. However, there is a fact that the language is itself so complicated that it will be always a new questıon about it.
for now,the language is the most known ,but the least conceiveable agent in our life...

acording to these three theory of language:this alive creature (language) bases on only human kind and it is definite that it will change according to us. there is always a circle in global history. human beings eventually find its origin, so language origin. we will turn the time when we started there will be a general, common modern and developed language which wont be complicated so as not to be wasteful.in the future human beings will get revenge from GoD and all nations will speak the same language but lang. will be divided according to our daily life. for exp.body language (pandomim) will be a kind of main lang. to express ourselves and also there will be a technological language too. that is to say, the fewer we use language, much more meaningful it will be!!!

According to Divine Theory the language is God's gift, it is magic and is the power to name all things. The other language origin theory is evolutionary theory according to it language came out with the changes in the humans brain.Social theories originated fromthe need of peoples comunicate. The future of the language is changeble , a lot of new words will came because of the technoşogy and some languages will died.People look for single language because they need to speek with different peoples and from different countries. The other reason is because the language connect the people in all over the world.

In my opınıon the future of language is changing at a great rate ın terms of divine, evolutionary and social theory. In the divine theory everythıng lıke that language is unıque. We get relıgıous ınformatıon thanks to Quran by God.The main tool for communıcatıon is language, so gettıng ınformatıon rigtly becomes thanks to language. If we dont use the language rıgtly, we don't understand the God accurately. In the evolutıonary theory, human beıngs come ınto our day by changıng and developıng .The thıng that beıng dıfferent from the other living, is the brain. But thıs ıs not enough, so for communıcatıon language ıs essential to state our ideas and feelings. If there isn't language, human beings don 't become different from the other living. In social theory, if we look at the tribe's language in africa, we can not see much vocabulary. The expanding of society causes the developing of language, because extensive society has much feelings and ideas to share. The development and effectiveness of communıcatıon tools increasethe living of language. This situation will continue forever.

divine theory:i think god decides to punish us again-once he did in babel legend-this time all of us would speak a single language but now a communication breakdown would occur because of the human made things, because of trying to reach the god via technology.he would say ''this is your choice and the end of the world has come''
all of the world would mention about one thing but no one could understand each other.-this is what he wants to do us-this is how he would call the end of the world.this is my utopia (34)

language is not something that you can decide on how to get new words invoved in it or you cannot improve it however you want.but anyway it will develop and improve itself.i think politics of the governments play an important role on deciding how to speak english at schools especially on vocabulary part.for example if you live under the rules of a religious based government directions, the english you learn will start with religious based words.you will come across god based texts mostly and the rules of your holy book.or in a secular countryyou will meet another face of language.this will affect your using of language.so governments' ways will play an important role for the future of the language

I believe that language is god's gift to mankind but as the time, passes, people on the world were seperated into different groups and each of those groups developed their own languages.in our time which language is spoken more depends on which country is more developed as economic, army, education... ı think this will be same in the future, too.in other words, today, why is the english widespread? it is because that the countries english is spoken are more developed than the other countries. ı do not know which country will be more devoloped in the future so, ı do not know which language will be widespreadly spoken in the future.

The future of language is all about the history of it and how it is used. A language could be effected by communicate, writing and how other people pronounce it. Future of language is related with innovations. Human could think and create lots of thing. For instance human created the computer and they named it with a name that is nearly the same with counter but the letters are only different. In the future even the computers may not be enough for us too and human will start create something faster, portable, flexible and name it with different letters.. Could a person before the age of writing imagine writing a novel? I don't think so because, first people named the things with it is sound and couldn't think far.. In the past, language was done with mouths and ears but now we are starting developing things by using a computer to show what we mean any other thins to create. Everything changes and new things come to our lifes.. Every new thing means a new name, because everything has a name even if we don't know it. We should ask and learn then create if posible at the end name it whatever you want. This is how it goes on..

language was born thousands of years ago. and it improved sometimes slowly and sometimes quickly. but all around the world language has the same function that's it provides the communication between people.the development of language wasnot same everywhere it changed different to each society.if there are lots of people language develops quickly.because everybody has different thinking.so new words are added to our vocabulary. according to the past nowadays i see that the relationship and the friendship between people is changed.nobody talks with anybody.this causes the dying of language.it's getting worser day by day. i suppose that the only reason is technology. media tv internet make people away from each other.they prefer writing in msn to talking directly.the famous msn reduced talking.i think for example in 100 years if a man comes near a young boy and asks him an address maybe he won't answer and maybe he'll say i dont care or i dont know. originally he knows the address but he is too lazy to say it.

we have three kinds of "origins of language" so if we imagine the future of languge , we must evaluate it from different aspects.

thinking with the aspect of devine theory;
language is a gift from God.and remember the "tower of babel" legend. before God's punishment everybody had soken the same , unique language.God punished the people according to their behaviour. I think, people will do sth else which can not be acceptable and this time God will take the ability of speaking and people will understand each other with the help of body language or gestures.

Thinking with the aspect of evolutionary theory;

Our genes can change a bit . there were some changes in vocal tract. And in the future changes will continue and some sounds which we can not make now will be used . and so words can change according to this evolution.

Thinking with the aspect of social theory;

With the interaction among people , language has changed. Throughout the years , people came together , shared the words with emotions or logical discussions, needs or etc. and language changed. and now there are many new words as a result of technological changes. In the future there will be inventions and the most of the words will be related with technology. Thats all.

According to some theories languages have developed since ancient times e.g; due to The Divine Theory human has been evaluated with language by the religions.Shortly no speech= no language.Due to Naturalist Theory, human created some words by imitations, groans, reflections from the natural sounds.Due to Evolutionary Theory, human brain has progressed, changed and evolved. It depends the origins of people.
My prediction about languages is that in future people all over the world will speak a common language.
The most important topic of this world is globalization by technology. The technical names of electronic equipments are gotten by this progress.Technical development is proportional with common words in the world.
The another thing about common words is imitation of cultur. In other words Turkish people like imitating Europe and United States. Therefore public generally believe that if you use a lot of foreign words in your conversation, you are an intellectual person. Thus language development by imitation is faster than technology. So in Türkiye we will speak a mixed language(english-turkish)

when people recognized how important was the language they started to try to explain something about it,explain some basic and important questions ; and the answers were changed according to life sight of the explanier. Some of them saw it as a gift from God and gave up to go on because found every "reason" in that aspect. Some of them tryed to use logic while searching and found some answer with the light of science, evolution. The others tryed to use nature. They found some answer by means of creatural things. No matter what the aspect of them ,the answer wasn't one.Languages lived and died. They were developed and they will develope, too.I think in future world the answers will be uncertain again but at the same time people will start to recognize the necessity of one language world. At least some of the languages will be left and people will begin to use the most popular and useful language.and the width of the using of a language will be selected according to power of the country which is the language belongs to.The more powerful a country is,the more common the using of its language, too.

the answr to the question'from which time has the language been existed or how old is language'is very complicated.people always searched on it and found some views:divine, evolion and social theory.although they can't express the formation but they all have big contrubituons.according to divine theory language skills are from God.according to the social theory it developed with the mankind's development but it is unable to point out the birth of it.and evolition theory is the same as about it's birth.
as language is from humankind it is very normal for it to change, develop or be effected by one another language.the wriitten passages are oo difficult to understand for us now and it will never end.only the reasons will change.maybe not the reasons, the roles only.in the past many countries and so languages vere dominant;ottoman language, french and etc.the reasons aren't always political they are generally social;commercial, war effect, immigration effetc etc.languages can'be ezpected to make no progress of course they effect each otker and vice versa.something that Im sure in the future of language there will be so many technical words as a result of computer-technology-era.

language has changed and it is stıll changıng because it is living.these changes can be seen as an evolutıon.we don't use the old vocabularıes and old structures however we use new meanıngs new structures so we accept by thıs way evolutıon theory.there is socıal thery about language, too.accordıng this theory people changes languge by tıme and ı belıeve to this theory because ıpeople changes meanıngs accordıng to themselves use vocabularıes accordıng to communıty we can see thıs ın same vocabularıes such as:don in turkısh it means inner wear now but in its old usage it meant treasure.so socıal changes play a bıg role ın language area. 3231060016

The language has existed on earth since the man was created which is the point of the divine theory.however languaged has always changed as the world and the people changed.Through many years some languages died but some of them survived for many different reasons like technology and how much the countries are powerful. It seems that this will also continue because change is inevitable in language as in everything.Today,as we all know,English is the most spoken language in the world which is because ıt is powerful both in politics and in economical areas. However I dont think this will continue long in the future. As it is widely known china is very developed in terms of technology and has the biggest population on earth therefore it may be posible that chinese may also be the one of the most spoken languages on earth.Nevertheless,as it is very difficult to learn,ıt may take a bit long time to achive this.In fact it wouldnt be wrong to say that the change in language takes place not in isolation from the social, political and economical situations. Moreover if we look around in the streets we may see that more tahn half of the people can speak english and if this contiues , may be english could be the language by which everyone will be able to communicate more or less in the future.

There are a lot of theories which have speculations about the origin of language. For example;divine theory suggests that language is God's gift to mankind.According to social theory, language evolved from the need of humans to communicate with each other. And humans can cooperate more efficiently if they can use a vocal language to communicate.Another idea about the origin of language is the evolutionary theory. These theory is connected with the evolution of the human brain.
Language is transferred to next generations and it is changeable. For ex;before a century ago the Turkish was different. And that times the common foreign language was French but now it is English. So in the future we dont know which language will be common.Maybe Japanese or Chinese will be the international language of the world.Because China and Japan affect the world with their economy, technology, industry, army etc.And of course the politics of countries determine the international language.Turkey has a critical and important role in the world also.I think in the future Turkey will be a world power and the importance of Turkish will be increased.I dont think it is just a dream.
According to Babel legend at the early ages there was just a language. Then God punished the people of Babel and gave a different language to each person. So languages were born from this punishment.Maybe in the future a language will have the dominance again and we will speak a language.
When a language isnt used,it will die.It is a characteristic of language. There are a lot of dead languages .For ex;Latin,Hebrew,Ottoman languages. In the future some languages, especially some etchnic languages will be added to category of dead languages.Because in times the speakers of some languages are decreased.
So in the future the picture of languages will be different from now.

People live in social groups. According to social theory, language devoloped for communicating other people. Children learn languge in their families. Family is very important at lerning language. Nowadays communicating people who speak different languages is very easy. Because of technology. 80% of internet language is English. English may be a common language in the future. If a country has a good economy, power and technology, the country can effect language of world. I think countries which are powerful can effect language.

According to me ,in the future ,there will be two possibilities:
The first will be having a common language and the second will be the world of letters.according to the first possibility there will be a common language .Today, each of the languages takes a lot of word from another language.it goes on for years.the capacity of language isn’t as same as with ancien language.the number of words is increasing but it becomes taking new word from another language.(for ex.adisyon comes from french, aut comes from english etc .)all of the languages do it so in the future ,none of them take a word from each other so there will be the same words in all of them and because of it all of the languages will be common.
The second possibility is the world of letter.it means that in our daily life we send messages or we send mail and we don’t write the whole word .for ex: in french there is a word ‘beaucoup’ but we write bcp, in english we don’t wirte ‘you’ we write ‘u’ in turkish we write slm for selam etc.it may be more practical for human it don’t take a lot of time but in the future for the more economic life there won’t be the words but only letters and there won’t be a context. This is the future of the language.0323050040 N.B

The sources of languages are based on the needs, feelings and fears of humanity; because the coordination of brain, tounge, lips and voice muscels, drawing pictures, jestures are the products of a great desire of expessing ourselves.

One of the most important representatives of the Ronesans humanizm Erasmus determines in his book “Morias Enkomion Seu Laus Stultitiate”; There are as many linguists as grammer.

Humanity always has interest in history, therefore many researches and archeological excavations have done; as a result humanity has a rich accumulation of written documents. All those documents are very important treasures of conscious that can be transfered beyond the ages. Documents and works could be classified as below:

1.Divine Theory: The oldest civilizations wrote about and for gods.
2.Evoulation Theory: The difficult circumstances of the countries and their histories and wars are written.
3.Social Theory: The rules, laws and punishments of the environments are written.

Although there have been endless scientific researches on linguistics, it is undetermined about the effects of future on languages.

Finally, every country is aware of protecting its native language is a matter of honor because culture and history and the character of a civilization are hidden in their language. At this bunch M. Kemal Atatürk founded The Assembly of İnvestigation of Turkish Language on the twelveth of july in 1932 and announced the second of september as the language festival.

Throuhout the history of the mankind, different nations lived all over the world. This means that they formed lots of various languages.Sometimes these nations annihilated, also their languages. There are some reasons of dying of a language. There were big wars and as a consequence of this there happened exploition.Big and powerful countries assimilated weak and the defeated one. With this assimilation, language of the winner side spreaded and language of the defeated side disappeared in time.
If we look at today's countries and languages which are international,we can see that reasons are related to politic and technology. In the future the most spoken language will belong to the countries which produce new things and sell their products to other countries and have developed technology.Trades and marketing will play an important role.Power and richness will be acquired with productivity.Technological devices particularly computers will determine the most spoken language.Besides we shouldn't forget the importance of political relation between countries. 3231060057

there were such sayings which comprises many "akçe", "arşın" etc... they are not used any more because they left their places to new terms. time has changed. noone writes what s/he feels about in the letters. in stead, we use messages via our cell_phones. we write "kib" or "sçs" with a kissing icon to represent our deep emotion. maybe we are too developed, we can understand each other more easily or we start to loose something. it is clear that language is changing and people will not talk to each other in the near future. they would just think in their own minds and won't express it if it is not necessary.
